WHAT TO EXPECT?

  • First sessions
Sessions usually last 50 minutes. The first sessions are devoted to identifying the reason for consultation, contextualizing it according to the client's development and history, and developing an intervention plan that will meet the identified objectives. This step may require the use of psychological testing orcommunication with third parties (health professionals, family, or community members). It is understood that the client's prior consent is required before communication.
  • Objectives of psychotherapy (click with reasons and/or services)
The sessions aim to implement the intervention plan developed in collaboration between the therapist and the client. In general, better self-knowledge, the quest for balance, the search for solutions, the change of behaviour or the reduction of symptoms are among the objectives pursued by clients.
  • How psychotherapy works
The duration of psychotherapy and the frequency of sessions vary and depend on the reason for the consultation and the objectives pursued. Psychotherapy can last from a few weeks to several months. Some clients choose to continue their journey over several years. It is possible that exercises or readings will be proposed to deepen the work done during the sessions.
  • Risks of Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is a collaborative process and requires commitment on the part of the client. Despite the benefits of psychotherapy, some sessions can occasionally cause emotional discomfort. If this happens, it is important to discuss it with the therapist.
  • Rates & Cancellation Policy
Rates and payment terms are variable and determined in advance depending on the services provided and the therapist consulted. Generally, payment of fees can be made in cash,  E-transfer or by cheque at the end of the session, or as otherwise agreed upon with the therapist. Sessions must be cancelled 48 hours in advance by phone or email, otherwise a fee will be applied. Consultation and psychotherapy costs are covered in whole or in part by most private insurance plans. A receipt is issued for each payment. To promote access to excellent psychotherapy services, a few spots are allocated at a reduced fee.
  • Confidentiality and Confidentiality Limits
The content of therapy sessions is strictly confidential and cannot be disclosed without the client's consent. However, some exceptions apply. If you pose a danger to yourself or others If a child needs protection If another health care practitioner has sexually abused a patient in any way If a court orders access to your record Also note that some insurance companies or other third-party payers may require information to reimburse sessions. The therapist will not share any information without the client's prior consent.
  • Records
Client records (paper and electronic) must be kept and securely archived for periods of time defined by the professional associations involved (10 years for psychologists and 7 years for social workers). The retention period begins after the last professional contact with the client. In the case of a minor, the retention period begins when the client reaches the age of majority. Once the 10 years have elapsed, records are securely destroyed.
