Why consult?

There has been a significant shift in attitudes towards undergoing psychotherapy. This is the result of, among other things, the substantial efforts that have been made to reduce the stigma associated with mental disorders. In this context, clients seek psychotherapy for a variety of reasons. Engaging in

therapy is a very personal choice. There are as many reasons for consultation as there are people who seek consultation.

Some examples of reasons for which we frequently choose to consult:
  • Seek balance and growth

  • Experiencing interpersonal concerns (couple, family, friends, colleagues, etc.)

  • Have been a victim of abuse or neglect

  • Would like to receive advice on raising children

  • Want to explore options when faced with an important decision

  • Experiencing problems at work (conflicts, stress, exhaustion, etc.)

  • Facing a life transition

  • Going through an ordeal (bereavement, separation, illness, job loss, etc.)

  • Experiencing mood difficulties (depression, anxiety, stress, fear, anger, loneliness, etc.)

In any of the above circumstances, talking to loved ones is often a great comfort. In other cases, this may not be possible, appropriate, or sufficient. The support of a mental health professional may then be the solution.
